On almost any given day you can see elk, deer, turkey, and wild horses, among other wildlife. The ranch receives 19 bull elk permits of which 4 are archery permits and 15 are rifle permits.
Brilliant Canyon Ranch is mostly rolling hills at an elevation between 7,000 and 8,000 feet with spectacular views of the Spanish Peaks in Colorado and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the west. The ranch is covered in a variety of old growth majestic conifers including Ponderosa Pine, Douglas fir, pinon, and juniper. The lush valleys and mountain meadows are covered in a variety of mountain grasses watered by 18 to 20 inches of moisture a year.
The climate of Brilliant Canyon Ranch is characterized as seasonal with summer temperatures averaging in the 70’s to 80’s and winter temperature in the teens to 40’s. Winter snows are quite common throughout this area of the Sangre de Cristo’s.
The lower and upper headquarters of the Brilliant Canyon Ranch consists of bunkhouses, hunting facilities, barns, shops, corrals, and several outbuildings. They headquarters are serviced with telephone, propane heat, and individual automatic Onan “electricity on demand” generators.
